One fully-funded PhD Students (2026 Fall)
Descriptions
Applications are invited for one full-time PhD student to join Prof. Qiming Zheng’s team in the Department of Geography and Resource Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, starting from 2026 Fall.

Successful candidate is expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Developing high-quality and original research in one of the following topics: Night-time Light Remote Sensing, Climate Change Mitigation, Global Environmental Changes, Urban Sustainability, or any relevant topic;
  2. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A Master’s degree in remote sensing, GIS, geography, environmental science, or relevant fields;
  2. An outstanding academic record with first-author peer-reviewed publication(s) in reputable journals;
  3. Proficiency in geospatial and data analysis, and computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R, C++, etc.);
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment;
  5. Preferred skills: remote sensing image processing, Machine learning/Deep learning, climate modeling, weather forecasting, land-use change modeling, IAMs, etc.

One Visiting PhD Student (funded by CUHK OAL)

Applications are invited for a six-month visiting PhD student to join Prof. Qiming Zheng’s team in the Department of Geography and Resource Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong during August 2026- July 2027. This visiting PhD student position will be funded by the PhD International Mobility for Partnerships and Collaborations Award of the Office of Academic Links (OAL), CUHK (See: https://www.oalglobal.cuhk.edu.hk/phd-impac-award/).

Successful candidate is expected to lead and collaborate on high-quality and original research in one of the following topics: Night-time Light Remote Sensing, Climate Change Mitigation, Global Environmental Changes, Urban Sustainability, and any relevant topic.

Qualifications

  1. Full-time PhD student from a Top 100 major global university (required by OAL);
  2. Be in the 2nd year of study or above when they undertake the visit (required by OAL);
